Top 5 Things To Do For Summer
So the middle of November is upon us and before we know it the season will be Summer, and we will be sitting ducks wondering if 2018/2019 will be as good as last year.
WELL, I have your back and coincidentally your Summer, coming to you with my top 5 picks of the best things to do with the hottest season.
These are my favourite things, and I enjoy spreading them throughout all three months of this season. Though you could do them all together you would then find yourself once again a sitting duck. So, make these your highlights or add your own twist onto them!
1. Drive-In Movie Theatre.
Yes, that’s right, you read correctly, and you’re about to be amazed.
You can never really go wrong with going to see a good movie, and there’s little that ticks all the right boxes as a drive-in movie during the Summer.
Picture this – affordable snacks from the grocery store, maybe a cold beverage or perhaps a juice. Windows down, warm breeze flowing through the car as a crazy good movie plays through the radio. Seats reclined, feet on the dash…you’re welcome.
Make an event out of it, grab a bunch of friends and take over the whole lot. It might just become one of those annual traditions you reminisce about when you’re older.
2. Camping/Making Smores.
I mean, this one kind of sells itself. If you’re not an ‘outdoors’ person, that’s okay – they have something called ‘glamping’ these days – google it.
If you’re like me, and you grew up in a place where you could see all the stars in the sky, as opposed to the few bright ones that shine through in the city, then you will understand the draw of a night under the stars. No sirens or the screeching of tires from people who go too fast around the roundabouts. Peace, quiet, the perfect Summer night.
The smores portion of this, well come on? Picture all that wonderful quiet with a gooey treat in your midst, it’s a must in my book.
3. Clean Out Your Closet/Declutter
So this one isn’t so much a fun and exciting activity as it will sort you out for a clear space and mind coming into the new year. Summer borders the line of two years, meaning that you end one and start another during the same season. What a time to clear out.
The end of the year will provide us with copious amounts of clothes and nicknacks that may need to be sorted, donated or returned to their original owners from that time you borrowed it for only a bit a few months back.
Go through your stuff; if you haven’t used it in the last six months then do something else with it, it might not be useful to you anymore. Make space for the things you will acquire in the year to come and clear your area for the Summer. Warmer weather can often make places feel smaller and more cluttered, doing this can help with that!
4. Picnic/Good Book/Shady Tree
Ah yes, I’m pretty sure this is on everyone’s list but the reason it’s on mine is because it’s something you can do time and time again, either with friends or on your own.
There is something wonderfully satisfying in packing yourself a meal and heading down in your favourite summer outfit, finding a free spot under a shady tree and reading a good book.
Doing this with friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends…it can be fun, and amazing memories can be made, but making time for yourself and spending some one-on-one time with YOU is also be important. That’s why this is one of my favourite things to do, and I hope it becomes one of yours too.
Again, for those who don’t get on with the outdoors, when I say ‘hiking’, you don’t have to pack a tent and cans of tuna for five days, and fight for your life scaling a steep rock face. You can enjoy small and easy nature walks too, or you can find a bit more daring or longer trails to take.
It’s more the fact that getting outside is healing, it does wonders for your mood, your health, your fitness and there is no better time than the Summer to get out and get active.
6. Windows Cracked During a Summer Storm.
Saving, in my opinion, the best for last.
Summer rain carries with it a certain callming aroma. It slows down your breathing, clears your foggy mind, lifts the heaviness that has settled on your eyes from a long year, and it brings with it a kind of peace.
If you are present during a summer storm, let it envelop your sense, enjoy it for what it is – I assure you, you will find it is the perfect remedy not just after a warm day, but a long year or the start to a new one too.
